Sydney Johnson – Enzyme Engineering Lead
Sydney is the Enzyme Engineering Lead at RevivBio. She holds a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of New Hampshire and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Virginia Tech. Prior to graduate school, Sydney worked in industry as an analytical biochemist focused on small molecule separation and identification. Her doctoral research focused on the mechanistic characterization of flavin-dependent monooxygenases where her efforts determined the mechanism of multiple oxidation functionality, filling a major knowledge gap. At RevivBio, Sydney leads the enzyme engineering efforts and believes strongly that multidisciplinary and collaborative science will lead to great discoveries in potential enzymatic capabilities.

Matthew DeMars – Protein Engineer
Matt is a Postdoctoral Scientist in the Enzyme Engineering team at RevivBio. He received his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Rochester and his Ph.D. in Chemical Biology from the University of Michigan, where he studied bacterial P450 enzymes involved in macrolide antibiotic biosynthesis. Before joining the company, Matt worked as a postdoctoral scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, where he investigated the mechanism and evolution of enzymes from plant natural product pathways. At RevivBio, Matt leverages his expertise in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, enzyme assay development, and analytical chemistry to discover and engineer better proteins for diverse applications. His day-to-day activities at the company include molecular cloning, protein expression/purification, assay implementation, and enzyme activity validation using analytical chemistry tools.

Christian Gomez – Enzyme Engineer
Christian is a Scientist in the Enzyme Engineering team at Revivbio. He holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago. His academic and industrial experience focuses on protein engineering, biocatalysis, and directed evolution, with particular interest in developing new-to-nature enzyme activities, selectivities, and specificities. He is passionate about multidisciplinary approaches to design new and better proteins. At RevivBio, Christian focuses on assay development, protein expression/purification, and low throughput screening efforts.

Yamei Cai – Bioengineer
Yamei Cai is a Microfluidics Scientist at RevivBio. She earned a B.Sc. in medicine and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Analysis from China, followed by postdoctoral research at Harvard University in David Weitz’s lab, where she focused on droplet microfluidics and its applications in high-throughput enzyme evolution, ultra-sensitive protein detection and drug screening. Yamei’s expertise spans microfluidics engineering, next-generation sequencing, and metabolomics. At RevivBio, Yamei applies her multidisciplinary background to design innovative assays and devices.
